Argentina reduces wheat retentions while Colombia trains rural producers

The Argentine government issued Decree 423/2026, lowering the tax on wheat and barley from 7.5% to 5.5%. The change is expected to improve farm margins as the 2026/27 wheat campaign may become the second‑largest sowing season in 17 years, with an additional 130,000 hectares reported by the Rosario Grain Exchange. Local market references in July placed wheat at around $293,800 per tonne.

In Dosquebradas, Colombia, mayor Roberto Jiménez Naranjo oversaw a training session for more than 20 mountain producers. The workshop, led by the municipal Secretariat of Agricultural Development, taught participants how to calculate production costs, set prices, and manage finances to increase the profitability and competitiveness of their farms.
