Argentina releases rescued maned wolf and confirms jaguar sighting in Santa Fe and Corrientes

A maned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) rescued from an abandoned building in Puerto General San Martín, Santa Fe, was rehabilitated at the Criif “La Esmeralda” centre and released this week into its natural habitat at Reserva Natural El Fisco. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Santa Fe, together with veterinary and technical staff, confirmed the animal was in good health before release. Minister Enrique Estévez highlighted the importance of returning wildlife to its rightful environment.

In Corrientes province, municipal authorities in Mburucuyá confirmed a jaguar (Panthera onca) sighting on the night of 4 August 2026 along provincial route 6 near the Santa Rosa corridor. Mayor Edgar Galarza Florentín urged residents to follow coexistence guidelines, while park officials and local officials documented the event and its footprints. Both incidents underscore ongoing efforts to protect Argentina’s native fauna and promote safe human‑wildlife interactions.
