Argentina religious survey shows shift toward private spirituality

The National Survey on Lived Religion (ENReVi 2026) reveals a significant shift in how spirituality is practiced in Argentina. While 95.2% of adults engaged in at least one religious or spiritual practice in the last year, only 23.4% attend mass or religious services on a weekly or daily basis.

Research conducted by the Universidad Católica de Córdoba, Boston College, and the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina indicates a trend toward private, domestic spirituality. Prayer is the most widespread practice, with 76% of respondents participating, and 60.3% doing so at least weekly or daily. Many of these activities, such as prayer and meditation, are performed in solitude and within the home.

Although Catholicism remains the majority affiliation, there is a notable gap between inherited religious identity and current practice. Additionally, the survey highlights social stances, with 77.4% of respondents agreeing that essential resources like water, food, and health should remain outside of financial speculation and private interests.
