Argentina reopens sexual abuse case against former federal prosecutor

The Argentine justice system has reopened a case involving allegations of sexual abuse and inappropriate conduct against former federal prosecutor Miguel Ángel Blanco García Ordás. The case, which dates back to 2017, was initiated by his former secretary, María Aurelia, who worked under him at the Federal Prosecutor's Office in San Martín.

The complainant alleges a pattern of behavior spanning several years, including non-consensual physical contact and sexualized comments. Evidence cited in the proceedings includes a birthday card sent by García Ordás containing the phrase “¡Mucho sexo!”. The victim also claims that professional advancement was tied to sexual insinuations, alleging the prosecutor told her she “knew what she had to do” to receive a promotion.

The case has undergone multiple judicial stages, including previous dismissals and an annulment. It is currently before Room I of the Federal Chamber of Criminal Cassation, where judges will review an appeal against a second dismissal issued in December 2024. The prosecution seeks to have the incidents evaluated collectively within the context of the hierarchical workplace relationship.
