Argentina reports 164 femicides of women and girls in 2026
The Adriana Marisel Zambrano Observatory, directed by La Casa del Encuentro, reported 164 femicides of women and girls in Argentina between January 1 and September 30. The report also noted 9 transfemicides and 19 related femicides involving adult men and children.
According to the data, 54% of the aggressors were partners or former partners of the victims. Furthermore, 56% of the killings occurred within the victim's home or a shared residence. The report highlighted that 22 victims had previously filed complaints, and 11 perpetrators were under existing precautionary measures.
Ada Rico, president of La Casa del Encuentro, expressed concern regarding potential Supreme Court rulings that might limit the legal scope of the femicide classification, warning that a more restrictive interpretation could hinder progress in addressing gender-based violence.
