Argentina reports decline in influenza as RSV drives hospitalizations
Epidemiological reports from Argentina indicate varying trends in respiratory viruses. While influenza cases are currently declining, with a higher proportion of influenza B being detected, the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) remains the primary cause of hospitalizations for severe acute respiratory infections (SARI).
Data from epidemiological week 36 shows that RSV accounted for 326 out of 891 studied hospitalization cases, significantly outpacing influenza and SARS-CoV-2. The impact of RSV is particularly concentrated among children under two years of age. Meanwhile, SARS-CoV-2 circulation remains at low levels.
In the province of Tucumán, health authorities have conducted situational assessments to monitor regional and international health trends. While dengue and chikungunya cases remain absent in Tucumán, officials are maintaining vigilance regarding respiratory viruses and the international measles scenario.
