Argentina reports high job insecurity as 80% of workers fear unemployment

A report by Bumeran reveals that 80% of Argentines fear losing their jobs, a phenomenon described as ‘job hugging’ where employees cling to their current positions due to economic instability. Human resources specialists noted that 66% of them observe this fear among talent within their organizations.

This trend is prevalent across Latin America, with job insecurity concerns reaching 87% in Panama, 85% in Ecuador, 81% in Chile, and 78% in Peru. In Argentina, the fear is particularly high among women at 85%, compared to 78% of men and 67% of those identifying with other genders.

Federico Barni, CEO of Bumeran.com at Jobint, stated that ‘job hugging’ is becoming increasingly visible, as workers no longer view changing jobs as an opportunity for growth but rather as a threatening situation. This fear also impacts the labor market by creating barriers to accepting new professional proposals.
