Argentina reports no new hantavirus cases and 258 new chikungunya infections

The National Epidemiological Bulletin said that during epidemiological week 19 no new hantavirus cases were reported in Argentina, keeping the 2025‑2026 season total at 106 confirmed cases. The Central region accounts for 54% of all hantavirus cases, with Buenos Aires province reporting 43, while the highest incidence rate (0.60 per 100,000) is in the Northwest, where 37 cases were confirmed, 83% of them in Salta. A recent investigation of the MV Hondius cruise outbreak confirmed one additional passenger case, bringing the cruise‑related total to nine confirmed and two probable infections of the Andes strain; the origin of this cluster remains undetermined.

Separate data show that 258 new chikungunya cases were recorded, including 107 in week 19, raising the 2025‑2026 season total to 2,387 cases (2,236 of them autochthonous). Most cases (96%) are concentrated in the Northwest, with Salta reporting 1,215 confirmed and probable infections, followed by Tucumán (630), Santiago del Estero (227) and Jujuy (185). The Central region contributed smaller numbers in Buenos Aires (46), Córdoba (36) and the autonomous city (13). Two new dengue cases were also confirmed in Buenos Aires and Jujuy, part of a season total of 67 dengue infections, 60% of which occurred without travel history.
