Argentina: Non-communicable diseases lead mortality rates

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) remain the leading cause of death in Argentina, accounting for 69.1% of the 376,405 recorded deaths in 2024, according to a report from the Ministry of Health.

Cardiovascular diseases are the primary cause within this group, representing 40.4% of NCD deaths. Other significant contributors include cancer (23%), chronic kidney disease (3.7%), diabetes (3.4%), and chronic respiratory diseases (2.4%).

The report highlights significant regional disparities in the Age-Adjusted Mortality Rate (TAMPE). Misiones recorded the highest rate at 603.2 per 100,000 inhabitants, while Jujuy had the lowest at 305.5. Other provinces with elevated rates include Chaco, San Luis, and Formosa, whereas the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and Chubut reported lower rates.
