Argentina reports record 992,803 influenza-like illness cases
Argentina has recorded 992,803 cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) so far this year, marking the highest number of notifications for the 2016–2026 period. According to the National Epidemiological Bulletin for week 37, 71,802 new ILI cases were reported between weeks 34 and 36.
In addition to influenza, there have been 122,808 annual cases of pneumonia, with 9,167 new cases reported in the most recent two-week analysis. The cumulative incidence of pneumonia stands at 264.3 per 100,000 inhabitants.
Regarding bronchiolitis in children under two years old, the report noted a decline in weekly cases starting from week 34. The cumulative total for the year reached 108,433 cases. Health officials suggest the high number of influenza notifications may be due to the respiratory virus season starting three weeks earlier than usual this year.
