Argentina reports trichinosis cases and health warning

Health officials in Argentina have confirmed a case of trichinosis in the mountain town of El Hoyo, linked to the consumption of pork and homemade cured meats that lacked laboratory testing. The parasite *Trichinella* can be transmitted through raw or undercooked pork, and authorities warned that salting or smoking does not destroy it. They urged the public to purchase pork products only from licensed vendors and to cook meat to an internal temperature of at least 71 °C for one minute.

Separately, the provincial Ministry of Health announced a suspected outbreak in Ushuaia, with eight people – six adults and two children – showing compatible symptoms after attending the same family gathering. All patients are receiving outpatient treatment and are recovering. Investigations are ongoing to identify the source of infection, but no contaminated food samples have yet been collected. Officials reiterated the same preventive measures: fully cook pork, avoid informal sales, and verify labeling on cured products.
