Argentina reshapes CNEA with new vice president and halved organizational units

President Javier Milei appointed nuclear engineer Enrique Gustavo Gennuso as vice president of the Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica (CNEA), replacing Luis Alfredo Tomás Rovere, via Decree 673/2026 signed with Economy Minister Luis Andrés Caputo.

In a separate move, the government approved Decree 655/2026 to cut the agency’s structure from 645 to 272 units, a reduction of roughly 58%. The reorganization, announced after about 100 layoffs earlier in the month, streamlines senior management and consolidates area directorates covering nuclear energy, research, health applications, isotope production, nuclear safety, and institutional coordination.
