Argentina restructures sports administration amid budget cuts
Argentina has undergone a significant bureaucratic restructuring of its sports administration following the publication of decree 581/2026. The Undersecretariat of Sports has been moved under the jurisdiction of the Secretariat of Tourism, Environment, and Sports, led by Daniel Scioli.
This reorganization follows the resignation of Diógenes de Urquiza, who previously managed both the Undersecretariat and the National High Performance Sports Entity (ENARD). Leadership of ENARD has since been delegated to Mario Moccia, who also serves as president of the Argentine Olympic Committee (COA) and the South American Sports Organization (Odesur).
The shift occurs as the country faces reduced funding, with the sports management sector currently handling approximately one third of the resources available in 2023. This administrative uncertainty comes as the nation prepares for the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
