Argentina moves Commerce Employee Day to Monday, September 28

In Argentina, the observance of Commerce Employee Day has been moved to Monday, September 28, 2026. While the official date established by Law 26.541 is September 26, the date falls on a Saturday this year.

An agreement reached between the Federation of Commerce and Service Employees (FAECYS) and major business chambers, including the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC), the Argentine Confederation of Medium Enterprises (CAME), and the Union of Commercial Entities of Argentina (UDECA), has authorized this shift to ensure workers receive their effective rest day.

The day is treated as a national holiday for employees covered by Collective Bargaining Agreement 130/75. This means they are not required to work, and if they do, they must receive a 100% salary surcharge. For those who do not work, their monthly remuneration and attendance bonuses remain unaffected.

Commercial activity will vary by location. While large supermarkets, shopping malls, and major retail stores are expected to close, smaller neighborhood shops and pharmacies may remain open if they are managed by their owners.
