Argentina retirees face 6% jump in medication prices over two months

Between 1 May and 1 July 2026, reference prices for chronic medications used by Argentine retirees rose 6.02 percent. During the same period the minimum pension increased 4.79 percent and real pension income edged up only 4.06 percent, leaving a gap of nearly two percentage points.

An analysis of 162 drug presentations showed an identical price rise across the board, driven by a uniform update coefficient applied by the Ministry of Health. A typical five‑drug basket cost 189,457 pesos in May and 200,859 pesos in July – an 11,400‑peso increase that represents 41.7 percent of a minimum pension holder’s July income. Even with the 70 percent coverage mandated by law, out‑of‑pocket co‑pay rose from 56,837 pesos to 60,258 pesos, roughly one‑eighth of the pensioner’s earnings.
