Argentina rolls out mobile eye‑care units in San Luis and Chaco

Two Argentine government health initiatives are delivering free eye examinations and glasses to children and teenagers. In the province of San Luis, a mobile ophthalmology bus launched on 22 June, providing more than 1,400 individual consultations and handing out over 1,300 pairs of glasses to residents aged 6‑17. The service, part of the “Ver para ser libres” program, will continue throughout the province for the next month, with two buses visiting multiple locations.

In the neighboring province of Chaco, the “Tren 25 de Mayo” health train arrived in the port city of Barranqueras on 1 July and will remain until 3 July. The train offers a range of specialised medical services—including ophthalmology, paediatrics, dentistry and mental‑health care—alongside administrative assistance. As part of the same “Ver para ser libres” initiative, the train provides on‑site eye checks and immediate distribution of glasses to eligible youths.

Both projects aim to improve visual health for minors in underserved areas, reducing barriers to treatment and supporting broader public‑health goals.
