Mexico expands food aid and free summer courses for millions of families

State governments across Mexico are scaling up social assistance programmes. In Quintana Roo, Governor Mara Lezama delivered 5,300 food packages and announced that the "Comemos Tod@s" program will cover 60,000 families by 2026. The state DIF also deployed mobile kitchens in Ezequiel Montes, serving up to 200 people per day in 20 communities.

Municipalities are launching free summer courses for children. Villa de Álvarez (Colima) inaugurated 150 free courses in 201 neighbourhoods, while Cuautla (Morelos), Ciudad Fernández (San Luis Potosí) and other towns opened similar programs to promote reading, arts and recreation. Veracruz's JEFMUN voucher scheme distributed over 3,000 vouchers to families, letting them choose basic‑basket items.

At the federal level, the Leche para el Bienestar programme reported 500,643 new enrollments, reaching 7.7 million beneficiaries in 2,231 municipalities and operating 315 new dairies, achieving 90 % national coverage. These coordinated efforts aim to combat food insecurity and provide safe, educational activities for children nationwide.
