Argentina sees municipal wage talks and mining labor inspection disputes

The municipal administration of Concepción del Uruguay in Argentina invited the municipal workers' union AOEM to a dialogue table on June 22, aiming to resolve a months‑long conflict over salary increases that included a 72‑hour strike. The union accepted the invitation and plans a follow‑up assembly on June 23 to assess the talks.

Separately, the Santa Cruz provincial government met with representatives of the Argentine Miners' Union (AOMA) and officials from Newmont, the operator of the Cerro Negro mine, to address safety, hygiene and local‑hiring irregularities identified during recent inspections. The province urged Newmont to quickly correct the deficiencies and increase employment of local workers, while continuing oversight of the mine’s labor conditions.
