Argentina sees rising household expenses as risk premium edges higher
Economist Miguel Kiguel told Splendid AM 990 that Argentine families are feeling a squeeze: wages have hardly changed while bills for electricity, gas and water have risen sharply, saying “the people today earn roughly the same as before, but they spend much more on light, gas and water.” He highlighted a divergence between export‑driven sectors such as energy, mining and agriculture, which are benefiting from strong international demand, and a domestic economy that remains hampered by limited credit, cautious banks and stagnant consumption.
At the same time, the country‑risk indicator rose 0.19 points to 525, a sign that investors still view Argentine sovereign debt as risky. The higher spread makes foreign financing more expensive and reflects ongoing uncertainty despite efforts by the Central Bank to stabilise the economy.
