Argentina sees surge in respiratory illnesses as winter deepens

Health officials in Argentina report a marked rise in respiratory infections as colder weather arrives. In Córdoba, Dr. Lorena Ravera noted increased outpatient visits and hospital admissions, emphasizing preventive measures such as early medical consultation, rest, hand hygiene, ventilation and vaccination. The province also uses the monoclonal antibody Nirsevimab to protect infants whose mothers were not vaccinated during pregnancy.

In Salta, the director of epidemiological coordination, Francisco García Campos, confirmed over 3,000 pneumonia cases and 112 severe respiratory infection hospitalizations, with more than 1,600 total internments across the province. He highlighted higher rates in the capital and certain departments, and stressed that most severe cases involve unvaccinated individuals. Ongoing flu, pneumococcal, COVID‑19 and booster campaigns aim to reduce complications, especially among people with comorbidities.
