Argentina Senate hears union input on pension reform bill

Senators of the Argentine province of Entre Ríos gathered on Tuesday morning in the Salón de los Escudos of the Casa de Gobierno for a joint session of the Budget and Treasury Committee and the Constitutional and Agreements Committee. Representatives of the Unión del Personal Civil de la Nación (UPCN) and the Asociación del Personal Superior de la Ciudad de Paraná (APS) presented their positions on the executive‑proposed law titled “Restauración del Equilibrio y Fortalecimiento del Sistema Previsional.”

UPCN deputy secretary Carina Domínguez, accompanied by advisor Sandra Varas, defended the interests of cooks, health workers and child‑family council promoters, insisting on maintaining 30 years of contributions and a 120‑month calculation period for pension benefits. She urged legislators to consider age, mobility, emergency clauses and municipal realities, stating, “Celebramos el debate en la Legislatura.”

APS secretary‑general Alejandra Levrand rejected the reform, warning that it grants “amplias facultades al Poder Ejecutivo,” would impose a “ajuste brutal” on municipal salaries, and could harm thousands of families in Entre Ríos. She highlighted low municipal wages and the potential erosion of municipal autonomy.

The meeting, attended by 15 senators including Gustavo Vergara and Juan Pablo Cosso, concluded with calls for a monitoring commission to follow the reform’s implementation.
