Argentina Senate proposes recovery of historic suspension bridge pieces
A legislative project has been introduced in the Argentine Senate to recover and preserve the original pieces of the historic “Ingeniero Marcial Candioti” suspension bridge. The bridge, which was inaugurated in 1928, collapsed in September 1983.
Senator Paco Garibaldi presented the initiative to identify, inventory, and value the surviving structural remains currently scattered throughout the province. The proposal seeks collaboration between the Executive Branch, the Municipality of Santa Fe, and the Puerto Santa Fe Administrator Entity.
The project aims to involve the community, including residents, universities, and cultural institutions, in deciding the public spaces where these historical vestiges will be displayed. Garibaldi emphasized the importance of protecting local identity and collective memory, noting that some metallic materials from the bridge were previously sold as scrap or auctioned in 2015.
