Argentina Senate reviews judicial candidate lists amid political controversy

Argentina's Senate opposition is examining a new batch of 61 judicial candidate sheets (pliegos) that were entered on May 14. The list includes candidates linked to Kirchnerism, former President Mauricio Macri, and judicial figures, some of whom have opposed President Javier Milei's proposal to lower the age of criminal responsibility to 14. Notable names include María Esther Pinos, Ana Clarisa Galán Muñoz, and María Ángeles Ramos, as well as a member of the AFA appeals tribunal, raising concerns about potential links to football federation scandals.

Senator Luis Juez, speaking after the femicide of Agostina Vega, sharply criticised Córdoba's political and judicial leadership, calling the province “a feudal province” and “a band of mafiosos”. He linked his criticism to the ongoing debate over the judicial pliegos, defending the parliamentary process while condemning alleged abuses of power at the provincial level.
