The Argentine Senate is scheduled to debate the Ley de Inviolabilidad de la Propiedad Privada on 6 August. The bill would repeal the 2011 Ley de Tierras, removing the 15 % cap on foreign ownership of rural land and the 1 000‑hectare per‑owner limit, and would also amend expropriation rules, making it harder for the state to reclaim land for public use.

A nationwide wave of protests has been organised by groups such as the CTA, ATE, environmental NGOs, local councils and the Catholic Pastoral Social. Demonstrations are planned in multiple provinces, including assemblies in the AMBA, Santiago del Estero, Nueve de Julio, Capilla del Monte, Salta and others. A Zuban Córdoba poll found that 77 % of Argentines oppose loosening restrictions on foreign land purchases.

President Javier Milei’s government backs the proposal, while opposition leaders including Patricia Bullrich and some coalition senators have expressed doubts about securing enough votes. The bill has failed to pass in three previous Senate attempts, and allies within the governing coalition are reportedly negotiating limits on the percentage of land that could be sold to foreigners. The outcome remains uncertain ahead of the vote.
