Argentina senator criticizes Ushuaia land auction as profit scheme for Milei allies

Senator Cristina López of the Justicialist Party denounced the national government's plan to auction two plots of land in Ushuaia that are administered by the Argentine Navy. She argued the sale amounts to a "real‑estate business for friends of President Javier Milei" and questioned the legality and strategic relevance of disposing of property that serves as the gateway to Antarctica and currently houses the municipal winter logistics centre. López demanded an explanation of the government's authority to dispose of the land, who may purchase it and what the future use will be, warning that the move reflects a broader policy of privatizing public assets.

The senator called on provincial leaders and institutions to reject the initiative, stating that the debate transcends partisan differences and concerns the future of Ushuaia itself.
