Argentina sets dates for murder trials of singer Pity Álvarez and mechanic Pablo Calatayud

The Argentine justice system has scheduled a new trial for rock singer Cristian "Pity" Álvarez. After recent medical evaluations confirmed he is mentally fit, the oral hearing will begin on 10 August 2026 and run through September, with each session limited to three hours. Álvarez remains under a travel ban and will face charges for the 2018 homicide of Cristian Maximiliano Díaz.

In a separate case, the criminal court in Quilmes started the trial of mechanic Pablo Daniel Calatayud on 18 June 2026. He is accused of the 24 October 2024 stabbing murder of 46‑year‑old Gastón Javier Altamirano, a man with dwarfism, in a workshop in Bernal Oeste. Prosecutors allege Calatayud and an unidentified accomplice named "Marcelo" carried out the attack to steal the victim’s money. Authorities are still searching for the accomplice while the trial proceeds.
