Argentina sets new minimum wage via decree after failed negotiations
The Argentine government has unilaterally established a new minimum wage schedule via Resolution 4/2026 after negotiations between labor unions and business chambers failed to reach an agreement. The new monthly minimum wage is set at 383,800 pesos for September 2026, with a series of staggered monthly increases scheduled to reach 437,000 pesos by April 2027.
Labor unions, including the CGT and CTA, had previously requested a much higher floor of 993,000 pesos by December. Analysts note that the current minimum wage remains significantly below the poverty line and the cost of a basic food basket. Data indicates a substantial loss in purchasing power for minimum wage earners compared to 2023.
Additionally, the National Commission for Domestic Work has announced new wage scales for domestic workers under Resolution 6/2026. These include staggered increases through December 2026 and a one-time non-remunerative sum for August based on weekly hours worked. The domestic worker updates include specific hourly and monthly rates for various categories, such as supervisors, caregivers, and general task personnel.
