Argentina: Stepfather arrested after 10-year-old girl found pregnant
A 10-year-old girl in the Avellaneda Department of Santiago del Estero, Argentina, was found to be approximately six months pregnant after being admitted to a hospital in Colonia Dora due to severe abdominal pain. Following the medical discovery, the child identified her 33-year-old stepfather, Julio Vivas, as her abuser.
Prosecutor Guillermo Farías ordered the immediate arrest of Vivas, who had been living with the girl and her 25-year-old mother in a rural area of El Bracho. Police seized electronic devices, including a mobile phone, from the suspect to assist in the investigation.
Reports indicate that the mother is also pregnant and has been subjected to violence and intimidation by the suspect. The family reportedly met Vivas through the internet approximately one year ago. The girl's grandmother, Norma Gómez, stated she had previously warned her daughter against leaving the child alone with the man.
