Brazil trade surplus reaches US$ 1.9 billion in early September
Brazil's trade balance showed significant activity in late 2026. In the first week of September, the country recorded a trade surplus of US$ 1.906 billion, driven by exports totaling US$ 7.298 billion against imports of US$ 5.392 billion. The cumulative surplus from January to early September reached US$ 57.224 billion, a 36.7% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) projects a total annual surplus of US$ 90 billion.
In the protein sector, performance varied by product. Brazilian chicken meat exports rose 25% in August to 492.6 thousand tons, largely fueled by demand from China. Conversely, beef exports saw a volume decline of approximately 27% in August. This drop is attributed to China reaching its established import quota, which limits volumes to avoid a 55% additional tariff. Despite the monthly dip, beef exports for the year through August grew 4.7% in volume and 22.3% in value.
Additionally, Brazilian pork exports surpassed 1 million tons for the first time in a single year between January and August, marking an 8.9% increase in volume compared to 2025.
