Argentina: Students and educators advocate for expanded sexual education

In Argentina, student representatives and educators are advocating for the expansion and improved implementation of Comprehensive Sexual Education (ESI). The Student Deliberative Council recently approved several projects, including a proposal to extend ESI instruction from the first two years of secondary school to include the third, fourth, and fifth years.

Additionally, student leaders are pushing for the creation of 'Ke Onda,' a dedicated social support space for adolescents in Manzana 11, as part of a day center project. Other approved initiatives focus on school recycling programs, vocational guidance, and financial education.

Despite the ESI Law (Law 26.150) being in effect for 20 years, advocates note that its application remains inconsistent across the country. While the law has helped children and adolescents report abuse, challenges persist due to institutional resistance, lack of resources, and political tensions regarding the role of teachers in the classroom.
