Argentina sunflower sector sees rising prices and increased planting
The Argentine sunflower sector is experiencing a period of growth driven by rising international demand for vegetable oils, particularly in Europe and Asia. In Rosario, sunflower prices reached $796,855.00, marking a 5% increase over the previous month.
Planting intentions have increased to 3.1 million hectares, with 1.121 million hectares already planted. While planting is complete in the north, central regions have reached 40% to 45% progress. Production forecasts vary among major organizations: the Bolsa de Cereales estimates 7 million tons, the USDA projects 8 million tons, and the International Grains Council estimates 6.8 million tons.
Despite favorable weather and high demand, the industry faces significant challenges. Logistics and supply chain issues are creating bottlenecks for exports, and rising transportation costs are impacting producer profitability. Additionally, local economic factors such as exchange rate lags remain a concern for the sector.
