Argentina Supreme Court orders wage and scholarship boost for public universities

Argentina's Supreme Court upheld a precautionary measure that obliges the national government to update salaries for teaching and non‑teaching staff at public universities and to replenish student scholarships as required by the University Funding Law. The court ordered an immediate salary increase of 21.33% in June, an additional 3% in October, retroactive adjustments to December 2023, and inflation‑linked updates through May 2026, as well as the restoration of scholarship funds. The decision also requires the executive to convene parity negotiations to implement the law fully.

University rectors, faculty unions and student groups welcomed the ruling, calling it a validation of two years of protests and strikes. They emphasized that the judgment does not settle the broader budget dispute for 2024‑2025 and warned that further actions may continue if the government fails to meet the court’s orders.
