Argentina Supreme Court to evaluate reopening corruption case against Horacio Rodríguez Larreta
The Argentine Supreme Court has appointed two judges, Alberto Dalla Vía and Renato Rabbi-Baldi Cabanillas, to serve as 'conjueces' to determine whether to reopen a corruption investigation involving former Buenos Aires Chief of Government Horacio Rodríguez Larreta.
The case concerns the construction of the Paseo del Bajo. Rodríguez Larreta and former Transport Minister Guillermo Dietrich were previously accused of fraudulent administration, abuse of authority, and violation of official duties. The allegations suggest that a contract segment was directed toward the firm Iecsa, which was associated with Ángelo Calcaterra, a cousin of former President Mauricio Macri, at an inflated price.
The decision to appoint external judges follows a lack of consensus among Supreme Court justices Horacio Rosatti, Carlos Rosekrantz, and Ricardo Lorenzetti. While the defendants were previously dismissed from the charges, the new judges will decide if the case warrants a formal reopening.
