Argentina Supreme Court to review lawsuit against Mendoza Archdiocese

A woman from Mendoza filed a civil complaint alleging that a diocesan deacon forced her to undergo two abortions and subjecting her to various forms of abuse. She claims the Archdiocese of Mendoza acted irregularly during its internal investigation and failed to provide her with proper legal representation.

The case progressed through the provincial courts, where lower rulings recognized the existence of damages but the Mendoza Supreme Court later overturned those decisions. In March 2024 the Argentine Supreme Court accepted the appeal and will decide whether to intervene and issue a final ruling, which could require the Archdiocese to pay financial compensation if liability is established.
