Argentina survey shows rising debt and multiple employment
A recent survey titled ‘La guita, el trabajo y el ahorro’ (Money, Work, and Savings), conducted by the consultancy Sentimientos Públicos, reveals significant shifts in the Argentine labor and financial landscape.
The study, authored by Hernán Vanoli and Juan Bonacci, indicates that approximately 47% of Argentines are currently in debt. Among salaried workers, 38.6% report having a second job, side hustle, or work through digital applications to supplement their income.
The data shows a generational divide in employment patterns. While ‘boomers’ (ages 56 to 70) and older adults (over 70) tend to hold a single job, 30% of those over the age of 55 maintain more than one source of employment. The report characterizes the current economic environment as a ‘volatile turbo capitalism’ that is transforming how money is used and how social protection systems function.
