Argentina suspends over 21,000 disability pensions
The Argentine government has suspended 21,812 non-contributory pensions for labor disability. Among those affected are more than 700 residents of Mendoza who lack a unique disability certificate.
Presidential spokesperson Adrián Ravier stated that the National Secretariat for Disability (Senadis) justified the suspensions due to a perceived lack of sufficient medical or socioeconomic documentation to maintain the benefits. Beneficiaries have been granted a 30-day window to submit the required documentation to prevent permanent cancellation.
Disability rights organizations have criticized the notification process, noting that many individuals may not be aware of the suspensions because the government uses email addresses that are no longer active. Walter Martello, Deputy Ombudsman for the Province of Buenos Aires, noted that there is a 60-day period to file appeals or submit documentation. He highlighted that some pension applications dating back to 2023 remain unresolved.
