Argentina tax burden: Individuals may face up to 43 different taxes annually
A report by the Instituto Argentino de Análisis Fiscal (Iaraf) indicates that an individual in Argentina may face up to 43 different taxes, fees, and contributions within a single year, depending on their consumption and asset levels.
While the government recently eliminated three national internal taxes related to mobile telephony, insurance, and motor vehicles—reducing the total from 46 in the previous year—the overall tax complexity remains high. The study highlights a significant overlap between national, provincial, and municipal levies.
For a consumer with basic needs such as food, utilities, and internet, the number of taxes can reach approximately 20. This includes national taxes like VAT, provincial taxes like Gross Income Tax (Ingresos Brutos), and municipal inspection fees. For individuals with higher consumption levels, including vehicle ownership, insurance, and electronics, the total can rise to 33 or more taxes.
