Argentina public sector workers launch strikes over wages
Public sector workers across Argentina, particularly in the province of Buenos Aires, are engaging in various strikes and protests to demand wage increases and improved working conditions.
Teachers and educational staff, represented by unions such as SUTEBA, FEB, and CTERA, have announced a 24-hour strike for October 15. Their demands include the restoration of the National Teacher Incentive Fund (FONID), better educational financing, and salary recompositions. This action coincides with a Federal University March.
Additionally, the State Workers Association (ATE) has conducted mobilizations in La Plata to demand permanent employment status for precarious workers and salary improvements. These protests target both the provincial government of Axel Kicillof and the national administration of Javier Milei, with unions blaming federal funding cuts for local economic instability.
Other regional labor actions include medical residents protesting the lack of supplies and salary drops, municipal workers in Cafayate seeking job regularization, and recyclers in the Abasto area demanding better equipment and control over recycled materials.
