Argentina to acquire 235 Stryker armored vehicles from the United States

Argentina has formalized an agreement with the United States to acquire up to 235 Stryker 8x8 wheeled combat armored vehicles for the Argentine Army. The deal was solidified through the signing of a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) between Argentine Defense Minister Carlos Presti and U.S. Ambassador Peter Lamelas.

The Stryker vehicles are not traditional tanks but rather highly mobile armored combat vehicles designed for various roles, including infantry transport, command posts, fire support, and medical evacuation. This acquisition is part of a broader military modernization and rearmament plan aimed at enhancing the Rapid Deployment Force's ability to respond to operational needs across Argentina's large territory.

This procurement follows an initial delivery of eight Stryker M1126 units. Based on previous costs of approximately $2.5 million per vehicle, the total acquisition for the 235 new units is estimated to be around $587.5 million. Additionally, the Argentine government is moving forward with other military upgrades, including the expected arrival of F-16 fighter jets to strengthen air defense capabilities.
