Argentina to build Integrated Naval Base in Ushuaia

The Argentine government has announced plans to construct an Integrated Naval Base in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego. Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno and Defense Minister Carlos Presti recently visited the site to evaluate the terrain and logistical requirements alongside military specialists.

The project is intended to strengthen Argentina's presence in the South Atlantic and enhance logistical capabilities for Antarctic operations. The government plans to include the construction and operational costs in the 2027 Budget, with an estimated investment of over 300 billion pesos. Officials stated that the project will be funded through state resources without external financing.

Construction is expected to take approximately three years, with a projected completion date in 2029. The initiative is framed within Argentina's long-standing sovereignty claim over the Malvinas Islands. Local authorities, including Governor Gustavo Melella, have expressed support for the project, noting that the region has advocated for such infrastructure for decades.
