Argentina hosts FIA American Congress to lobby for Formula 1 return

Argentina is preparing to host the 2026 FIA American Congress in Buenos Aires from August 31 to September 2. The event, hosted by the Automóvil Club Argentino (ACA), will bring together representatives from over 35 countries and include FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

President Javier Milei is scheduled to inaugurate the congress and will use the opportunity to personally lobby FIA officials to bring Formula 1 back to Argentina. The country has not hosted a Grand Prix since 1998. To support this goal, significant renovations are underway at the Oscar y Juan Gálvez Autodrome, designed by Tilke Engineers & Architects, to achieve the FIA Grade 1 certification required for top-tier racing.

The push for a return to the F1 calendar is bolstered by the rising popularity of Argentine driver Franco Colapinto. The congress will address regional motorsport challenges, including technological innovation, sustainable mobility, and infrastructure development.
