Argentina to host IMF chief Georgieva as $4.3 bn bond payment looms

Argentina’s economy minister Luis Caputo said IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva will travel to the country at President Javier Milei’s invitation. He portrayed the visit as a continuation of the constructive dialogue supporting the current economic programme and the IMF’s assistance in consolidating stability and growth.

The announcement comes as Argentina prepares to meet a $4.3 billion principal‑and‑interest payment on foreign‑currency bonds due on 9 July, for which the government says the necessary funds have been secured. Additional financing has been arranged through World Bank‑linked guarantees that could mobilise up to $2 billion in loans, reducing the need for further market borrowing during Milei’s term through 2027.
