Argentina to renegotiate over 100 expired collective labor agreements

The Argentine government, through the Ministry of Labour, will summon unions and employer organisations to renegotiate more than 100 collective bargaining agreements that have expired. The initiative, to be launched within 30 days, is intended to align the contracts with the new Labor Modernisation Law, which abolished the “ultra‑activity” mechanism and introduced broader changes to collective negotiation, indemnities, working hours and union contributions.

The reform aims to update agreements that are considered outdated in light of recent technological and productive shifts. Trade unions have expressed concern that the mass renegotiation could erode previously acquired rights and diminish bargaining power, while the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) continues legal challenges against aspects of the reform.
