Buenos Aires driver banned for life after stealing inspector's bodycam

A 32‑year‑old driver was stopped on the Buenos Aires‑La Plata highway for lacking a valid VTV inspection. During the stop he seized the official citation book and the body‑camera worn by a traffic inspector, then fled the scene at high speed. The stolen bodycam was later recovered using its built‑in geolocation feature.

The provincial Ministry of Transport, led by Minister Martín Marinucci, filed a formal complaint and handed all evidence to the justice system. The Subsecretariat of Road Safety ordered a permanent driving disqualification for the offender, citing the seriousness of the act and the risk it posed to officers and other road users. Marinucci said, “We will not allow those who attack workers performing their duty to go unpunished.” The incident underscores the Ministry’s cooperation with AUBASA in maintaining safety on major corridors.
