Argentina trial resumes for missing child Loan Danilo Peña

Oral and public hearings in the case of the disappearance of five‑year‑old Loan Danilo Peña will restart on 28 July 2026 after a brief recess for the judicial fair. The trial, which has so far held nine hearings, involves 17 defendants and is being conducted at the facilities of the National Gendarmerie’s Squad 48 in the town of Algarrobal, Julía district.

Defense lawyer Dr. Ernesto Tito González said the earlier proceedings were “somewhat sloppy,” citing problems with odor‑analysis evidence, mishandled police reports and inconsistencies in canine tests. He warned that procedural flaws could lead to nullities but stressed that the case is now more organized despite differing judges from four provinces.

Martha Pelloni, coordinator of the “Infancia Robada” network, expressed confusion over the multitude of conflicting information but affirmed confidence in federal judge Cristina Pozzer Penzo. Pelloni highlighted allegations of police and political cover‑ups, possible involvement of a child‑sex‑exploitation ring, and the need for a defendant’s break‑down to advance the investigation.
