Argentina university protests demand implementation of financing law

Pre‑university schools in several Argentine provinces—Córdoba, Buenos Aires, La Plata and Salta—have started a national campaign to collect one million handwritten signatures and petition the Supreme Court to enforce Law 27795 on university financing. The initiative, presented on 12 June in Buenos Aires, calls for a ruling that would safeguard the funding of public universities, research institutions and related services.

In parallel, university teachers and non‑academic staff launched a six‑day strike from 16 to 20 June, organized by the AGD‑UBA and Conadu Historia. The strike demands the immediate application of the same financing law, rejecting a government proposal that includes salary hikes of 21.3% in June and 3% in September but falls short of the law’s 50% salary recomposition requirement. Protesters say the agreement, reached behind workers' backs, threatens salaries and student scholarships. Both actions reflect ongoing tension after a recent wage‑parity deal temporarily halted earlier protests.
