Argentina university salary and funding deal with government

Student groups, teachers' unions and university bodies launched a nationwide signature campaign to urge the Argentine Supreme Court to fully apply the Law of University Funding. The effort, coordinated by pre‑university associations and the unions AGD and Feduba, seeks to prevent a judicial delay of the law that guarantees funding for university hospitals, staff salaries and scholarships.

The government announced an agreement with the National Inter‑University Council (CIN) and university unions that provides a 24.33% salary recomposition – 21.33% in June and 3.3% in October – and adds 50 000 million pesos for university hospitals. It also raises the Manuel Belgrano scholarship by 50% while leaving the Progresar scholarship unchanged. Union leaders welcomed the step but warned, “the struggle serves, but it continues,” and stressed that the law remains in force and the underlying structural deficits have not been solved. University rector Rubén Soro said, “It is a relief, but it does not resolve the fundamental issue; we will never withdraw the law.”
