Argentina university staff secure 21.33% salary hike, suspend planned strike

The National Federation of University Teachers (CONADU) and the Argentine government signed a new collective agreement that raises university staff salaries by 21.33% in June, with an additional 3% increase scheduled for October and provisions for periodic wage reviews. The pact also includes a matching raise for salary guarantees and a working table to discuss compensation for pre‑university teachers affected by the removal of a funding incentive.

Following the agreement, CONADU suspended the four‑day strike it had planned, while maintaining its broader campaign for full implementation of the University Funding Law. At the National University of La Plata (UNLP), the updated salary grid shows gross monthly basics ranging from about 837,926 pesos for the lowest category to over 2.5 million pesos for the highest, translating to net wages after deductions of roughly 670,000 to 2 million pesos.

The agreement affects the 34 university unions represented by CONADU, with 21 of them voting in favor, and marks a significant step in the ongoing negotiations over university financing and labor conditions.
