Argentina university staff secure 24% wage rise ending planned strike

Argentina's national government and university unions reached a salary agreement that halted a planned nationwide university strike. The deal provides a total 24.33% wage increase, applied in two steps: a 21.33% rise effective from June salaries and an additional non‑cumulative 3% increase in October. The agreement also commits the executive to hold mandatory tripartite wage‑setting tables at least every three months to protect purchasing power.

In exchange, the Frente Sindical Universitario suspended the strike scheduled for 16‑20 June, avoiding disruption to the academic calendar. The government also pledged a 20% increase in operational funding for national universities, a 50% boost to Belgrano scholarships, and an additional 50 billion pesos for university hospitals.
