Argentina's CONADU Secures Major Salary and Funding Boost for University Staff

The National Council of University Workers (CONADU) signed a collective bargaining agreement that grants university employees a 21.33% salary increase for June and a 3% raise for October, along with a 21.33% overall salary guarantee. The agreement also includes a 20% rise in operating‑fund allocations, a 50% increase in Manuel Belgrano scholarships, and an additional 50 billion Argentine pesos earmarked for university hospitals in 2026. Further measures call for parity negotiations to resume by 15 September, a plan to address salary losses from the removal of the FONID, and a suspension of an upcoming strike pending compliance. The plenary also reiterated support for the release of former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, linking the labour agenda to broader democratic concerns.
